Stephanie Theis

In our second installment of "Blogger Snapshot" we asked Blogging for Books blogger, Stephanie Theis, to tell us about her blog, her readers and her life...

Q: How long have you been blogging?
I have been blogging for over 5 years. It's crazy how fast time goes!

Q: What (or who) got you into blogging?
I had a friend who was pregnant with her 3rd child. At the 20-week ultrasound, she found out that her baby had hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS). She started a blog to keep family members and friends up to date. She enjoyed it so much, she begged me to start my own blog.

Q: What do you love to blog about? Hate to blog about?
I love to blog about the fun things that are going on in my life and family. I love when my blog is upbeat and encouraging. I love to blog about new things I have tried that worked out well. I hate to blog when I'm in a "valley" or low point in my life, especially rough spots in my marriage. It's hard to be transparent when I'm hurting. It's always easier to blog about the issues that I've already conquered, but it is more rewarding to blog about difficult subjects and how I'm struggling to lean on Christ.

Q: Who is your primary audience? Who reads your blog? (Or, who do you want to read your blog?)
I have a varied audience, and my blog posts reflect that. It's like a potluck dinner. I generally target my extended family who live far away, moms like me, homeschooling families, and people who are just interested in learning more about our family.

Q: What blog posting are you most proud of? Why?
Ohhh, that is too hard! With over 900 posts, I just have no clue. One of my favorite book reviews this year was "Don't Make Me Count to Three" by Ginger Plowman. I borrowed the book from my local library. I really wish I owned it.

Q: On average, how many blog posts do you make per day? Week?
My goal is 5/week. Sometimes real life is a little too busy.

Q: What other blogs do you follow?
I have made quite a few friends through blogging. But here are two that I know "in real life":

Q: What are you doing when you’re not blogging?
Chasing around my own 8 kids, plus a few other day care kids. I feel like I am constantly moving.

Q: What is your all-time favorite book? What is the best book you’ve read this year?
Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien is my favorite book of all time. It's really hard to choose the best book I've read this year. It's tight between Don't Make Me Count to Three by Ginger Plowman and Enemies of the Heartby Andy Stanley.

Q: Who inspires you?
There are several amazing women that God has placed in my path. I am always looking for a glimpse of Jesus through these ladies and how I can be more like Him by following their examples.

Q: How did you hear about the Blogging for Books program?
I started doing book reviews for another publisher after I saw an ad on someone's blog. I began to search the internet to see if other publishers did the same. I found that not all publishers are equal, so I started weeding through authors I knew and trusted. John Piper and Joshua Harris are two such authors. I found out their publisher was WaterBrook Multnomah, and came looking for a book review program. I can't even begin to tell you how this program has changed my life. I am simply amazed and thankful for the opportunity I get to review books. I NEVER would have read as many books as I have in the past year and a half. I never would have discovered the talented authors (like Donita K. Paul--whom my 10 year old son has become friends with) that I've been exposed to. It has been incredible for my own personal growth and for sharing with my family. Many people email me to say they were glad for such-and-such review and they have decided to buy the book. I'm honored. Thank you!
